The Loft (Local Outreach Family Therapies) is a community-based
project in Cabra which offers therapeutic support services in response
to individuals, family members and the community who have been
impacted by substance use, including alcohol. The Service supports the
provision of an integrated range of therapeutic interventions to meet
the diverse needs of our service users in an accountable, accessible
and equitable manner. The Loft delivers a holistic intervention
service in the Cabra Community to assist people to move away from
problem substance use and gain a better quality of life.
Reporting to the Team Leader, we are now looking to recruit a
part-time Substance Abuse Counsellor to join our team. This
appointment will be a one-year fixed term contract. Remuneration will
be commensurate with HSE Substance Abuse Counsellor Pay Scales. This
is a newly developed role. The successful candidate will engage in
therapeutic relationships with service users to assist in the
management of substance use and related issues including mental
health, using evidenced-based interventions.

evening and some weekend work. The successful candidate will be
required to undergo Garda Vetting.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA/QUALIFICATIONS:
_ESSENTIAL_
* Professional qualification in Addiction Studies and/or Counselling
& Psychotherapy to a minimum level 8 (as per the National Framework of
Qualifications) and to be accredited with relevant equivalent body;
* A minimum of two years post qualification experience in managing a
case load under supervision in the area of addiction, and have
achieved or be working towards accreditation.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES AND KNOWLEDGE
_ESSENTIAL_
* Demonstrate the ability to assess service users? suitability for
counselling/intervention;
* Demonstrate an understanding of short-term intervention to service
users utilising therapeutic approaches such as person-centred and
cognitive-behavioural therapies;
* Demonstrate knowledge of harm reduction approaches and programmes;
* Demonstrate an ability to utilise evidence-based practice in
informing clinical decisions about service users;
* Demonstrate experience in facilitating psychosocial therapeutic
group work
* Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of National Rehabilitation
Framework;
* Demonstrate knowledge of addiction support services, residential,
day and community based supports available for referral;
* Demonstrate clinical knowledge of assessment and intervention of a
range of addiction and dual diagnosis;
* Demonstrate competence in responding appropriately to diverse
service users who are vulnerable or at risk;
* Demonstrate knowledge of notification procedures around child
protection, vulnerable adults and management of other ethical
considerations relevant to post;
* Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development and
effective use of supervision;
* Demonstrate awareness of professional and personal boundaries;
* Demonstrate an appreciation of the importance of professional and
personal support systems;
* Display effective interpersonal and communication (verbal and
written) skills;
* Demonstrate ability to manage service users? records effectively
and to produce counselling reports as required;
* Demonstrate an ability to work both as part of a multidisciplinary
team and to work independently, under supervision;
* Demonstrate an ability and competence in the use of IT Systems,
including experience of working remotely using alternative formats
such as Zoom, video, phone and ability to produce statistics/reports;
* Demonstrate ability to manage deadlines and effectively handle
multiple tasks;
* Maintain continuity with the service users and develop systems of
service user review.
_DESIRABLE:_
* Demonstrate knowledge of adolescent/adult development and the
impact of deprivation, neglect and abuse;
* Demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation;
* Demonstrate initiative and innovation, identifying areas of
improvement, implementing and managing change;
* Demonstrate evidence of effective planning and organising skills
including awareness of resource management;
* CRA/ACRA/CRAFT qualification
SELECTION PROCESS
